Only The Government......?

Only the government; we heard lots of that sort of thinking from President-elect BO yesterday.  I was reminded of how Ronald Reagan pointed out that we should be very afraid of someone who comes to us and says, "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help." He reminded us that government was the problem, not the solution!  Yet here we are with the new leader-to-be of the free world telling us that only the government can get us out of this morass of economic woes.  It was the government who got us into this to begin with, so how in blue blazes can we expect them to get us out of it?

America works best when the government gets out of our way and allows us to create new jobs, new businesses, new endeavors and new dreams.

"America is a remarkable nation—a strong, prosperous and good nation—unique in its dedication to the principles of liberty and constitutional self-government. It is the hard work of freedom to perpetually renew this purpose and make it ever manifest in the politics and public life of our nation."

I am probably stupid but I agree with you. I can't think of anything government ever got into that didn't become overly complicated and messed up.

Less government would mean less taxes and more money for more jobs and some real help for these desperate times.

while we certainly can't afford more taxes.. to have no taxes would be less funding for important programs.. and only more money in the pockets of the rich business owners... because they're not going to pass it down to the little guy.

The poor get the shaft in all of it.. no matter what happens really.

America definitely works best when the government gets out of the way. Thankfully, due to innovation in the marketplace, I believe the country will not experience anything quite like the depression of the 1930's ever again. There are now so many ways for individuals to relatively inexpensively start their own businesses through franchising and network marketing. All the American people must do now is realize that they have the power and ability to sieze their own destinies.

I have to agree with Bush. It's WallStreet's Fault all of it... I agree with what he said this morning in his press conference. "Wall Street got drunk and we got the hangover."

But of course it's really easy for us to sit in our houses and our ordinary lives and criticize those in power when there's no way in hell we could do any better. Anyone that thinks they're able to better tackle these issues than the President or President Elect or someone with actual political experience is just arrogant.

Fact is we have government, we need government in our lives.. anything less is anarchy and that is not the answer either. If we let the 'businesses' run the country there would be a lot more poverty and a lot more rich getting richer, and I don't see any of them worrying about how they're going to feed their family's like I am in this economy. They're just worried about their profit margins.. For those of us in the lower levels of economic status.. it's a matter of SURVIVAL not profit margins.

Are you kidding? "Anyone that thinks they're able...is just arrogant?" How arrogant is it for the President Elect to think that he has the answers? He is not an economist, he has never run anything (Oh, I forgot, his campaign) and thanks to the system of free enterprise he made a fortune from selling books.

Business does run this country. It is the engine that propels us by creating the wealth to feed the government. But that government should be well contained and directed, not let loose on a feeding frenzy.

Who do you think creates wealth? Where do you think government gets funding? From businesses and tax payers. Are you one of those people that think if you get a government check that no one had to give the government the money for that check - it just comes from some divine intervention?

Profit margins? Do you know where those profits go? They go to my IRA and my husband's 401(k). It's called investing and getting a return. Just like putting money in the bank gives you interest. If a company does well they may hire more people, give employees a bonus or a raise.

Those "rich business owners" pass it down to the "little guy" every time they sign a paycheck and fund social security benefits.

If you are in the lower level of the economic status quit moaning for a government program and start looking for a better job or start a business.

Or better yet, write a book... it worked for Obama and the Clinton's.

i happen to work for one of the biggest banks in this country and never have looked for a handout... I just don't agree with the "RICH" getting richer while the rest of us get poorer all the time.

yea and wall street is why MY 401 K LOST money.

Obama may not be an economist.. but he's the president like it or not you're stuck with him for four years and bitching about it isn't going to change that.... or crying anti government just because a democrat got in office isn't going to change it either.

Why are you getting poorer all the time? Let me tell you some possible reasons why...

          1) The gas in your car and the heating of your home costs more and more due to government interference and the denial to find our own energy resources.

          2) The dollar gets weaker due to our trade imbalance with China and the middle east because unions want bigger and bigger wages and consumers want cheaper and cheaper consumer goods.

          3) Your 401(k) lost money because going back as far as Jimmy Carter the ineptitude of a number of congressman and Government Sponsored Enterprises (that's Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) thought that to "help" the poor get housing was of the utmost import. This enabled people with no business to borrow money to get loans they could never repay, and 30 years later as the balloon burst on all this, you and every American who actually had money is stuck with the bill and the mess. If you work for a bank, then maybe you should do some research and discover that two of the biggest criminals in this little enterprise were Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.

          4) You claim to be getting "poorer all the time". Do you have a roof over your head? A cell phone? An iPod or similar? A car? How many meals do you eat out a week? In most countries that's called "rich".

I didn't bitch about O, but that seems to be the only argument you can make to my response. You have the same chip on your shoulder that all liberals seem to have. I didn't cry anti-government, but I could say that you are somewhat anti-American. You don't believe in the tenet that this country was founded on -WE THE PEOPLE! Not one president, not one group on Capitol Hill -- WE THE PEOPLE.

If you put all your faith in one man, you are going to be a very disappointed person.

Everyone should get down on their knees at night and pray that the rich get richer. The rich own the businesses that pay our paychecks. The rich pay most of the taxes, no matter what the tax rates are. The rich buy new products when they are too expensive for the poor, which leads to more production and lower prices for all. The rich provide the capital for the companies that pay dividends into our 401Ks and IRAs. I love the rich! I want to be one of them someday.
