The Day I Lost Faith

Although it is hard for me to admit, I can't see a bright future for my home country and my heart is totally broken, once again, the "politics as usual" will be taking over my beloved home country and the socialist US hating parties will be vindicated in their saying that "free markets and conservative policies don't work".

It is sad to see how this week a great President, like my president Uribe, has been shunned by US congress and will be cited by Marxist professors like one more failure of the conservative movement in my country Colombia.

As you know because of my early writings, president Uribe totally transformed a scared nation and gave us the opportunity to dream again; he made us feel free to travel throughout our country,  he gave power back to the people and backed up by the most brave group of heroes (our military forces) told my generation, a generation who grew jailed in the big cities, knowing nothing but violence, narcotraffic and fear, that we could retake control of our country, and "Democratic Security" wasn't just a campaign slogan, it became a reality.

Now a huge amount of former members of paramilitary groups and narco-guerrillas have given up their weapons, in return, they have been given the opportunity to study, learn a profession and reintegrate into normal life, which have brought a great amount of unemployed (mostly) males to our already crowded cities, to add up, we have the internally displaced families, who had to leave all they knew and owned in the countryside and fled with their children to the big cities, where they have become homeless and also unemployed, there are different training programs for them too, but we don't have companies to hire them, which day by day adds to a social problem, since their children still need to eat and they do "whatever" which in Colombia we call "el rebusque", and it can include selling candy in traffic lights, to stealing or murdering "on demand". THAT'S WHY WE NEED FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN THE FORM OF FREE TRADE

FARC guerrillas have been virtually finished in the Colombian jungles, but there's still a large amount of them disguised as "community organizers", "union leaders", "political refugees" or "human rights watchers" play a big role in international relationships.   They are the ones who pose with their big "NO FTA" signs in manifestations, appear at "Colombian Forums" where they pose as "experts" and keep blogs where they denounce the "injustices" with the "afro-Colombian communities" and the "Presidential death squads".

(Phony Colombian "unionist refugee" above left, spreading lies about Uribe at a Minnesota union hall.)

If you look closely to all of their propaganda, you will certainly notice that they NEVER denounce their compadres/comrades of the FARC or ELN and have an special admiration for the politics of Hugo Chavez.

This deadbeats are the people whom democrats like "Nancy Pelosi" and "Bill Richardson" will meet and listen to (look at photos).

(Nancy Pelosi in her finest Chavista red dress, meeting with FARC supporter and Colombian politician Piedad Cordoba, and Rep. James McGovern(D, of course.)

San Fran Nan won't receive President Uribe for an interview but will go all the way to Syria to meet Bashar Al-ASAD.

Richardson won't receive Uribe either, but will go all the way to Venezuela to visit Hugo Chavez.

These are the leaders the American people have elected to represent them and now presidential candidate Barack Obama, who said he would meet the most anti-American tyrant leaders "without preconditions",  yet  the best America's true friend Uribe could get was  a telephone call. Meanwhile, John McCain went all the way to Cartagena Colombia to meet him and now Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin will be meeting with him tomorrow Tuesday in New York.

(John McCain with Uribe in Colombia recently.)

For me, as a Colombian immigrant the choice is crystal clear.

I guess my faith is not totally lost after all... but it will be surely lost the day that (God forbid 1000000000000000 times) American people elect Obama as their president.

Thank you for reminding us how much hinges on this election, and not just in America. The world wants Obama, including our enemies. That the world will suffer, especially economically, even more than us is sad but ironic.

Thanks for the input, Rancher. May I add that "including" should be "especially"?

There's a tiny part of me that prays Pelosi will be beaten by Cindy! I'd rather it be by someone akin to Duncan Hunter's son, but anything's better than Nasty Pelosi!

I'm also Colombian and although it is not a pretty subject you presented it in such a pretty way that almost made me cry because of what's happening.

First I want to congratulate you for this report, and secondly, I say we have to wait and see what this nation does in the elections, we have to be positive and wish that not for beauty but for effectiveness, not for color but for reason, not for being modern but for courage and conviction we will have the next president of the USA, who will be willing to keep up with the fight to improve his country and therefore ours.

Keep your faith, that's the last thing one should loose.

My heart aches for the pain that seeing your country treated this way hurts you. This could be anyone's country in today's world, even ours, and we have to get rid of the cancer that the likes of Pelosi and Obama bring us. Please keep the faith, Carolina. We are praying and working to not let this craziness continue. Surely God will have a hand in seeing that good prevails. God bless you, your countrymen, and President Uribe.

    Great article!!

Also, Al Gore went out of his way to embarrass Uribe in Miami last year.

They weren't mentioned in the IBD article, but I also thought of this famous photo of John Kerry shaking hands with Marxist thug Daniel Ortega in Managua, Tom Harkin in the background. Just further proof, as if any more was necessary, that Democrats have a long history of turning the US Marine motto, "no better friend, no worse enemy", on its head.

I am scared to death of Obama winning this... i started to watch the debate with Biden (Dead eyes) and Palin, I had to turn it off because Biden kept making it a bash McCain session instead of actually debating the issues. Was too irritating... praying like hell obama doesn't win.
