Betrayed!

Conservatives, Republicans:  We have been betrayed.  Now that McCain is "our" candidate, he stands up in Los Angeles today and betrays us

"In such a world, where power of all kinds is more widely and evenly distributed, the United States cannot lead by virtue of its power alone.  We must be strong politically, economically, and militarily.  But we must also lead by attracting others to our cause, by demonstrating once again the virtues of freedom and democracy, by defending the rules of international civilized society and by creating the new international institutions necessary to advance the peace and freedoms we cherish.  Perhaps above all, leadership in today's world means accepting and fulfilling our responsibilities as a great nation."

Senator McCain, the only part of the above that I can whole-heartedly agree with is the very last sentence.  America should never EVER go along to get along with the rest of the world.  You may not believe in America's exceptional ism, but I do!  I believe our Constitution was divinely inspired.  Why on earth would we want to defend the "rules of international society"?

"There is such a thing as international good citizenship.  We need to be good stewards of our planet and join with other nations to help preserve our common home.  The risks of global warming have no borders.  We and the other nations of the world must get serious about substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the coming years or we will hand off a much-diminished world to our grandchildren.  We need a successor to the Kyoto Treaty, a cap-and-trade system that delivers the necessary environmental impact in an economically responsible manner. "

Global warming?  Excuse me, Senator, but it is being debunked as a colossal myth almost on a daily basis!  It is a money grab of monumental proportions that should be discounted out of hand!  Sadly, Mr. McCain, you do not understand Who is in charge of the earth, and have no clue about history's tale of climate changes.  We already recycle, turn off lights when not in use, change out incandescent light bulbs to mercury-infested "energy saving" light bulbs that become hazardous to our health if we should be so careless as to drop one.  What is next, Sir?  Even Gore & Clinton knew better than to sign Kyoto One, and you want a new version?

"Relations with our southern neighbors must be governed by mutual respect, not by an imperial impulse or by anti-American demagoguery.  The promise of North, Central, and South American life is too great for that.  I believe the Americas can and must be the model for a new 21st century relationship between North and South.  Ours can be the first completely democratic hemisphere, where trade is free across all borders, where the rule of law and the power of free markets advance the security and prosperity of all."

Senator McCain, we can respect our southern neighbors AFTER we put a fence on the border and stop the bleeding of illegals coming over our borders and bankrupting our country!

"I will establish the goal of eradicating malaria on the continent — the number one killer of African children under the age of five.  In addition to saving millions of lives in the world's poorest regions, such a campaign would do much to add luster to America's image in the world."

Does this mean, Senator, that you will reinstate the use of DDT in Africa?  That was the last big "scare" the left perpetrated on the world...the way they are doing now with their global warming scam.  That ban has killed more people than all of the warfare on the African continent in the past 30 years!  Ever hear of "unintended consequences", Mr. McCain?  What will be the unintended consequences of your global warming plans?  Let's start with my prediction of economic collapse.

"
We learned through the tragic experience of September 11 that passive defense alone cannot protect us.  We must protect our borders.  But we must also have an aggressive strategy of confronting and rooting out the terrorists wherever they seek to operate, and deny them bases in failed or failing states.  Today al Qaeda and other terrorist networks operate across the globe, seeking out opportunities in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Africa, and in the Middle East."

Sounds good.  By the way, Senator, does Juan Hernandez still work for your campaign?  How can we have faith in you, McCain?

"If we withdraw prematurely from Iraq, al Qaeda in Iraq will survive, proclaim victory and continue to provoke sectarian tensions that, while they have been subdued by the success of the surge, still exist, as various factions of Sunni and Shi'a have yet to move beyond their ancient hatreds, and are ripe for provocation by al Qaeda.  Civil war in Iraq could easily descend into genocide, and destabilize the entire region as neighboring powers come to the aid of their favored factions.  I believe a reckless and premature withdrawal would be a terrible defeat for our security interests and our values.  Iran will also view our premature withdrawal as a victory, and the biggest state supporter of terrorists, a country with nuclear ambitions and a stated desire to destroy the State of Israel, will see its influence in the Middle East grow significantly."

Senator McCain, you argue successfully for our continued presence in Iraq.  Yet you still want to close Gitmo and end waterboarding?  Do you not realize that doing either of those would signal your weakness (not America's...YOURS) to al Qaeda and their allies in Palestine and Iran?  It will mark you as having a "weak stomach", and you will lose face with them.

I know we don't have a choice in November...but I feel utterly betrayed!

That McCain got the nomination points to the weakness of the conservative field in the primaries. Let's be honest, the entire field was very flawed. And the reason for the weakness of the field is that the conservative movement is in disarray. The GOP has managed the past several years poorly, and we got handed our heads in the last congressional elections.

We're going to see more of this from McCain. The only consolation is that he's still a lot better than Obama or Clinton.
