White Guilt?

You've heard about white guilt, right?  Yep, I'm a white woman, raised during the 60's civil rights movement.  I've been accused of having "jungle fever" (white woman's love of all things "black"), of being a bleeding heart (not too sure how being pro-civil rights is "bleeding heart"), and suffering from "white guilt".  Raised by union Democrats, in Southern California, I was under the mistaken belief that JFK & LBJ were somehow the saviors who instituted the civil rights legislation.

In 1989 I began listening to Rush Limbaugh during trips to visit my grandson, because between Durango, Colorado and Albuquerque, New Mexico, there was little radio choice at that time.  It was a tough time in my life, and focusing on Rush was better than listening to music that reminded me of the sadness in my life at the time.  On one of those road trips listening to Rush, he raised the topic of civil rights legislation, and how it never would have happened if it were not for the Republicans in the Congress.  I was flabbergasted!  After all, I’d been taught that all Republicans were racist, were a bunch of rich people who wanted to keep the “rest of us down”!  I could not see how it could possibly be true!

Since I am a “perpetual student”, I decided I was going to research what he’d said, and when I found the “facts” I would call and confront him!  Only problem was, he was right!  In fact, I learned that Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ) who signed the civil rights legislation into law as President, had in fact voted against similar legislation for the twenty years he was a senator!!!  Good luck looking for it on google or any other liberal website.  I found it at the library!  I also learned that the vaunted John Fitzgerald Kennedy  (JFK) had asked J. Edgar Hoover, CIA Director, to find something on Dr. Martin Luther King to get him off his back.  Same with a link to back this up.  Do you remember how to use a library?  Or maybe you are a better internet researcher than am I.  Go look for the truth, you will find it.  If you are like me, you're tired of being lied to!
