Media vs. Conservatives

The war between the drive-by media and conservatism is heating up.  I actually heard one of the talking heads proclaim Romney's chances dwindling as McCain's grow exponentially.  Then I get up this morning to find a pretty interesting e-mail in my in box from a dear friend who received it from the Romney camp.  Had some very important points I need to point out;

"5)Governor Romney has tremendous financial support, from people just like you. Not including ANY of Governor Romney's personal contributions to his campaign, Governor Romney's campaign has raised more money than any candidate in the history of the Republican Party!  He has raised roughly $20 million more than John McCain thus far. And that financial support remains strong; in fact, the day after placing second in the New Hampshire primary; what some were calling a big loss to McCain Governor Romney held a fund raiser and raised $5 million in one day. By comparison, the democrat winner in NH, Hillary Clinton, also held a fundraiser that day and raised only $700,000. This relates directly to his ability to stay the course and beat the Democrat nominee in November.

6) Governor Romney is the most electable Republican because he can fight the fight. I just mentioned money raised. Money will mean a lot in the coming months!  John McCain is currently spending as much money as he brings in and is $4.5 million in debt. The Democrats have raised hundreds of millions of dollars and if Senator McCain becomes the nominee, he will have no money with which to compete with the Democrats. The Democrats will bury him with the sheer size of their war chests.  He CANNOT compete with them financially."  [emphasis mine]

 The financial aspect the drive-by's have mentioned only by alluding to him having to self-finance his campaign.  They do not want us to know that McCain cannot beat Shrillary or Obama!  After all, that's why they champion McCain.  I've said it before, I'll say it again, conservatism wins every time it is tried!

I spotted this in Townhall.com and it further bolsters my point from the historical perspective;

"How had such concerns, I probed, helped Republicans win seven of ten presidential elections since 1968? Specifically, where did religion come in? The class is mostly liberals (which I’m enjoying), and one answered: “Abortion and homosexuality.”

True, but the explanation goes deeper. Faced with a string of Supreme Court rulings devaluing religion, and with a Manhattan-Berkeley-Hollywood axis scorning moral absolutes and spiritual faith, traditionally-minded Americans of both parties rallied around GOP candidates for a defense of the old values, “the way we were.”

Defense of marriage and the unborn was part of it, sure, but so was defense of our national identity and security. Baptist Jimmy Carter lost reelection after dismissing the “inordinate fear of communism” and embracing a declinist view of the future. Divorcee Ronald Reagan won twice with “city on a hill” biblical optimism and a forward strategy against the Soviet “evil empire.”"

It really goes to the core of the founders of our country, where religion was cherished, and indeed was proclaimed to be the real glue which bonded us together.  In the words of John Jay, said to be the father of conservatism;

"This country and this people seem to have been made for each other, and it appears as if it was the design of Providence, that an inheritance so proper and convenient for a band of brethren, united to each other by the strongest ties, should never be split into a number of unsocial, jealous, and alien sovereignties."

Conservatives understand this instinctively, even if they are atheists.  McCain can't win by trying to be one of them.  Scrutiny of who voted for him in Florida will reveal moderates and independents.  Romney voters in Florida consisted of the base, conservatives.  Florida is not exactly the bastion of conservatism that say Texas is, so I need to remind you folks who are going to the polls on Tuesday:  Don't let the drive-by media and McCain's misleading ads portraying him as a conservative dissuade you from voting for the only conservative in the race; Mitt Romney!
