Nebraska, A Real Conservative This Time?

This headlinewas a pleasant surprise this morning!

Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel plans to leave the Senate after two terms as a Republican Party maverick, people close to him say.
Hagel plans to announce that "he will not run for re-election and that he does not intend to be a candidate for any office in 2008," said one person, who asked not to be named.

Hagel has scheduled a press conference for 10 a.m. Monday at the Omaha Press Club."

Now maybe we can get a true conservative.  How about it, Nebraskans?

But something I find very interesting about politics today -- this is a national story. It shouldn't be. If we had a federalist system, where states had control, as the Constitution outlines, no one else would care who was a Senator from Nebraska. But in today's system, with a massive federal government, decisions made by the Senator from Nebraska WILL affect me -- and they shouldn't. Oh how far we have come into the darkness.
