So Which Is It?
"It might not be so easy the next time disaster strikes.
|
Proponents say the system will get professionals on scene quicker and keep untrained volunteers from making tough work more difficult.
But they also know it is a touchy subject, particularly for those devoted to helping in moments of crisis."
Is it just me, or do any of you remember the stories of "barn raisings" when someone's barn would burn down, and all the neighbors came to help the family build a new one? Post Katrina, countless church and school groups loaded into buses, and went to Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama with shovels, care packages and HEARTS FULL OF GOD'S LOVE for their fellow Americans.Whatever the government tries to control, and/or to regulate, will take the heart and soul out of Americans. The founding fathers are spinning in their graves!

Dagney...WOW!
You are absolutely correct about the founding fathers spinning for this and oh so many of the "nanny state's" improvements to their plan for our nation. I think I might have an explanation for this though. I won't make you feel any better about the nonsensical spin of the article, but it's an explanation nonetheless.
I'm not sure I told you, but I'm now working in an office that is supposed to help make the Army more efficient, effective all the time spending less money. The budgets on the wall point to the fact that we're going to have to do the same job, with far fewer dollars in the future. Before you start sucking air between your teeth, let me just say that we have been pretty wasteful from my standpoint and I've been watching this beast for 27 years. We could cut the budgets and still get the job done...but we have to break some of the bureaucracy up, smashing empires and rice bowls.
That's where it's going to be tough...just like you see in the article above. Rather than harnessing the giving and volunteer nature of Americans, it would appear that the first responders in place are feeling a little jealous. Afraid that "we" might do a better job than them?
On the flip side, I do understand what they mean about worrying about the "Average Joe" stepping into a situation with the best of intentions and making things worse. I've seen that a number of times when stopping to assist motorists stuck in cars after rollovers and such. The best thing to do is to get on your phone, dial 911 and wait if you can for the cavalry to arrive. The last accident I rolled up on...I almost saw a couple of soldiers crushed when they were trying to help.
In any case, yes Dagney...there's far too much legislation in place to allow this country and her people to prosper and thrive. Adding to that, there are far too many programs that tell others to sit back and wait for their checks. Government is making more and more folks reliant on them...rather than expecting them to get off their dead butts and do for themselves.
Bless you and thank you for what you're doing at the Fisher House. Pass my best to the men and women...and their families!
Hugs from the high ground!

No, Dagney, it is not you. I've run into this as well. I just go around them when I can. When I cannot, I risk going to jail because I remember the parable of the Good Samaritan...call me nuts, I know most on the Left already do. *sigh*
