Angels & Heroes

Tonight was the kick-off of the third annual Soldiers Angels Convention in San Antonio.  Held at the Marriott Riverwalk Hotel, a meet and greet of a couple of hundred of the 200,000+ worldwide Angels dedicated to making sure that "no soldier goes unloved" (the motto of this remarkable group).  Angels from all over America, and perhaps the world, though I met only those from America in the short time there tonight, came to San Antonio for a fun-filled 4 days of networking.  Included in this evening's celebration were some of the heroes we honor.

This trio of heroes are in San Antonio undergoing advanced training in preparation for their deployment to Iraq.  When I tried to get the guys to stand closer to this lovely lady, they politely explained that she is their CO (Commanding Officer).  Respectful distance is an acceptable excuse.

San Antonio is also host to the Dallas Cowboy's pre-season training camp.  Apparently prior to my arrival, a contingent of the Cowboys team were hanging out in the lobby talking to some of the Angels and heroes.  One of them was tied up on the phone.  Jamal Robinson came into the banquet room later to show his respect for these heroes, after he got off his phone call.  I thanked him for coming by to honor our heroes.  I know some in the media consider sports figures as "heroes" of sort, Jamal obviously knows where the honor lies.  Just prior to when I took this picture, he was visiting with the hero to his right who will deploy to Iraq tomorrow.

Sorry for the fuzziness, but I'm still learning to use my phone camera!

Today was spent waiting on a very special letter.  The letter was from the hospital JAG attorney, whose office is helping in our quest to get our El Salvadoran soldier's family into the U. S. to be with him.  When I say "waiting", I do mean WAITING!  I arrived at BAMC just before 10:00 a.m., and finally walked out with the letter just after 2:00 p.m.!  It was a yippee skipee time, until I tried to get it faxed and mailed.  It was with little time to spare that I got home to get ready to go to the event this evening.  If the Soldiers' Angel founder hadn't asked me to attend tonight, believe me, I'd have been putting the feet up tonight.  There is no way I could say "no" to that very special lady!
