U. S. Attorneys A Big Deal?
"The Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday cleared the way for subpoenas compelling five Justice Department officials and six of the U.S. attorneys they fired to tell the story of the purge that has prompted demands for the ouster of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
The voice vote to authorize the panel to issue subpoenas amounts to insurance against the possibility that Gonzales could retract his permission to let the aides testify voluntarily, or impose strict conditions.
The committee also postponed for a week a vote on whether to authorize subpoenas of top aides to President Bush who were involved in the eight firings, including political adviser Karl Rove, former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and deputy White House Counsel William K. Kelley."
I certainly won't complain if they are successful in getting rid of Gonzales, as I've written often about the INjustice Department's failures to prosecute a congressman, William Jefferson who has had two men admit to bribing him, go to jail...while he's not even been brought up on charges! I won't even go into the slap on the wrist given Sandy "The Burglar" Berger for stealing and destroying papers from the National Archives. AG Gonzales deserves to be fired, but not for this non-issue.
At the same time, we're accustomeded to the left using any excuse to go after anyone in the Bush administration, so this should not surprise us. Nor should it surprise us that this type of scrutiny never was shown on the firings done by the Clinton's
"As it happens, Mrs. Clinton is just the Senator to walk point on this issue of dismissing U.S. attorneys because she has direct personal experience. In any Congressional probe of the matter, we'd suggest she call herself as the first witness—and bring along Webster Hubbell as her chief counsel.
As everyone once knew but has tried to forget, Mr. Hubbell was a former partner of Mrs. Clinton at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock who later went to jail for mail fraud and tax evasion. He was also Bill and Hillary Clinton's choice as Associate Attorney General in the Justice Department when Janet Reno, his nominal superior, simultaneously fired all 93 U.S. Attorneys in March 1993. Ms. Reno—or Mr. Hubbell—gave them 10 days to move out of their offices."
Sure...like that's going to happen!
So this is just more of the same? I'm not so sure. I think it goes lots farther! In fact, I believe it goes all the way to Iraq. So long as the surge is showing progress, they want to avoid folks noticing the progress. Keep in mind that the following is from CNN, so take the numbers and at least double the good ones;
"The number of civilians killed in Baghdad in the past four weeks was 265, compared with 1,440 killings from mid-January to mid-February, said Atta, a spokesman for the operation. (Effects of crackdown)
Atta also reported that 94 terrorists were killed in the February-March period, compared with 19 in the January-February time frame.
Other figures released by Atta included:
Atta offered the statistics as key indications that the security crackdown is bearing fruit."
The news from yesterday's post will never see the light of day, and reports from a peaceful Baghdad will go unreported, except by the blogosphere. While San Fran Nan Pelosi is trying to cut funding for the Iraq front and stupidly setting a withdrawal date [translate: Hold on, Bad Guys, until this date!] in the war on mufsidun fighting hirabah. The surge's apparent success cannot be noticed....or it would be bad news for the failure-invested Democrats.

Gonzales should be fired but not for this. What is astounding is this administrations inability to fight back. The new Republican mantra should be “Get a backbone!” Instead they admit mistakes were made. They say it was not political when it was and should be. Andrew C. McCarthy at NRO has an excellent article that explains why. Thanks for stopping by my blog, hope you come back.
