The Illogical Left
First things first; this headline is utterly revealing of the leftist leanings of the article's author, but that shouldn't be any surprise coming from UK's Guardian which is left of even the New York Times. I shouldn't be surprised, but the mindset is so illogical that it still astounds me. For instance:
"Ayn Rand is one of the most controversial writers in modern American literature, known for her tireless advocacy of the right to selfishness and her hatred of big government. She has been derided and loved in equal measure and her books have sold millions of copies, attracting followers as diverse as banker Alan Greenspan, President Ronald Reagan and architect Frank Lloyd Wright."
The saddest, and yet the most ridiculous & illogical statement is; " the right to selfishness and her hatred of big government". The engrained socialist mindset denigrates personal achievement, and elevates governmental control. What is it about these people that encourages them to champion governmental control, while at the same time denying personal achievement? I've never understood the mindset that wants to hold folks down. Is it the educational system? Methinks it's YES! Indoctrination akin to "Obsession"'s story.
I do not believe that anyone who has read "Atlas Shrugged" can call it a primer in "selfishness", when it is a clear picture of what happens when a governmen and/or a union insists that everyone must be paid the same, regardless of their performance. Why is this a good way to get a job done? I asked my brother, a workaholic union activist who busts his fanny on the job, if he likes being paid the same as the slacker who "gets by"? He was left speechless, which is saying something for him. For those who perform at the best of their ability, yet see those around them under-performing, what exactly is their incentive to excel? To me, it's simple logic. It's kind of like the simple logic bumper sticker on my car, "If guns kill people, do pencils misspell words?" I've always found logic hard to argue with, haven't you? Unless you're indoctrinated like this author.
"Atlas Shrugged is one of the most controversial books in modern literature. It is a passionate defence of Rand's belief that the world is best served when individuals act entirely in their own rational self-interest. Or, to put it more bluntly, they act selfishly. Rand, who died in 1982, founded the objectivist school of philosophy and still has millions of followers. Atlas Shrugged and another novel The Fountainhead promote her views. In financial circles Atlas Shrugged has been dubbed 'the bible of selfishness'."
What financial circles, Mr. Harris? Certainly not the Dow Jones? How is encouraging individuals to be their most creative selves "selfish"? How do you think America got to be the world leader in innovation, Sir? How is denying government control over individual creativity a bad thing? Has logic been bred out of you?
Now as to "America Idol". I lost all regard for the program tonight when a Navyman, from the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan was denied further consideration. This young man gave me goosebumps when he sang. He was Harry Connick, Jr. and Michael Buble combined...yet they rejected him. I can't help it, I grew up on the left coast, and I have to believe the military connection had something to do with the rejection. Another logical assumption, particularly after the Dixie Up-Chucks swept the Grammys. You see, I know how the left coast works, and logic has nothing to do with it.
It should not be unexpected after the rejection of an OIF wife whose voice was at least equal to others in her grouping, that the decision could only be attributed to her own personal story. Thankfully her precious husband will be home soon, and American Idol will become a distant memory. I hope her overall memory will be a positive one. Her rejection, and others tonight, are a bitter pill for me to swallow, however. No matter where I go, whether it's Curves, or the Fisher House, the talk on Wednesday and Thursday are "AmId" centered, so I started to watch...until tonight.
The last straw was Bailey Brown. Her professionalism, and the lack thereof from her team members was a telling example of the non-values of the program. No military connection that I remember, but southern, with a values oriented family still has a stigma, where the left is concerned. I was raised with that mindset, so I believe I can spot it more readily than most.
Considering the socialist mindset that seems to be epidemic in our world today, I should not be surprised by either the "Atlas Shrugged" article, or the non-performance of American Idol tonight. Yet I still cannot get over the lack of simple logic today. I have to admit, it's distressing. It took me awhile to unprogram myself from my liberal education, and logic was my miracle cure.
