The Case For Giuliani

I have had many recent conversations with fellow conservatives, and the bottom line is "Who have WE got?"  Excellent question, as the '08 primary schedules are accelerated.

As some who read this blog know, I am a talk radio listener.  Yesterday I heard an interview of Rudy Giuliani, America's Mayor, on the Sean Hannity radio show.  I have had my reservations about Rudy as a candidate for the GOP, but they seem to be melting away.

I will recall from memory the gist of his conversation with Sean:

On gun control, since I do not have a transcript; his stance on it had more to do with the "region" of the country he was dealing with, and the out-of-control crime that ruled NYC before he took office.  He has no reason to want to change the 2nd Amendment in any other state, and I believe him.  Get over it, hunters [like me] and concealed carriers [like me], he's not going to take your guns away!

On SCOTUS; Rudy is a strong supporter of all of President Bush's choices, and would follow suit with strict constructionist judges.  This is a man who does not want judges making laws!

On America's security, Rudy "gets it"!  This is a man who lowered the murder rate in NYC, who brought the Mafia to justice, and who refused a Saudi prince's gift of $10 mil after 9/11 when the prince suggested that America needed to "change foreign policy" (in regard to Israel).

All of the above is very important, however maybe the most important factor is his experience as a former Justice Dept. prosecutor:

"In 1981, Giuliani was named Associate Attorney General, the third highest position in the Department of Justice. As Associate Attorney General, Giuliani supervised all of the US Attorney Offices' Federal law enforcement agencies, the Bureau of Corrections, the Drug Enforcement Agency, and the US Marshals. "

Does Rudy have any influence?  Maybe he can make the current INjustice Dept. actually follow the law!  Like not letting the likes of Sandy Burglar get off with a slap on the wrist, while putting Border Patrol agents in jail for doing their jobs.

[OT:  Congress cannot enforce a law, they can make them, but NOT enforce them.  What is going on with InJustice Dept. and Homeland Security does not make me feel safe!]

I love Newt.  However, as president, he'd be as vilified as Dubya...maybe more!  He'd have a target on his back from the day he announced, and it would be larger the day he was sworn in, which I doubt would happen.  The drive-by media hated him as Speaker of the House, can you imagine him as President?  Nope.  Me either.  At least George Bush and the Donks agree on amnesty for illegals.  With Newt, it would all out war in D.C.!

I think that Romney would do a great job; he turned the Olympics around in Salt Lake City.  I don't believe, however, that he'd survive the right AND left's vilification of Mormons.  I don't know very much about the religion, but I do know they are Christians, which is all that matters to me.  Sorry folks, just too many targets here.

McCain, again, sorry, but he's too volatile.  His health history and his tantrums, sorry, I just don't trust him as far as I can see him.  Especially since he sold us out with McCain-Feingold.  [Sorry, Pastor Haggee, but NO GO!]

Tancredo and Duncan Hunter sound GREAT to our RIGHT side, but can they beat the Shrillary?

Sorry there's lots of great GOP hopefuls, but the MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR is that Giulani is probably the only Republican who can beat Shrillary/Hellary/SHE WHO MUST BE...  Beating Hillary Clinton, in my opinion, is the most important consideration.  Rudy can get THAT job done!

Only if he gets to the general election. I cannot vote for him--due to his positions on the (open) borders, abortion, family, etc.--because he is too liberal in these areas.

I really like him though! He sure told those Saudis where to stick their $10 million dollar check, didn't he? He also threw Arafat out of the UN because was not invited! LOL. Take care.

I'm keeping an open mind with regard to the GOP field. I share many of your concerns with regard to Gingrich, Romney McCain, etc.

Like you I think Guliani would be great on the war and on foreign policy. I worry about him on social issues but think that in the end he'd do the right thing. My biggest concern, though, is that he might be "our Bill Clinton". His personal life has been, shall we say, "tumultuous".

But as I said I'm keeping an open mind.
