A Happy Beginning To A Happy Thanksgiving

We spent our day by preparing for our Thanksgiving Day with soldiers from Ft. Sam Houston, cleaning house, cooking, and the inevitable checking of e-mails.  What a delight to start the holiday with this e-mail;

Subject: HE'S COMING HOME...

Dear Dagney and family,

Wow...Jonathan called me at 5:44 this morning as he was getting ready to head to Kuwait to come home as his tour of duty comes to an end...
What a way to celebrate Thanksgiving...
I wanted you two to know first, because you two brought him to your house a couple of years ago and fed him and another soldier like kings on thier first Thanksgiving alone..

You are always in my thoughts and prayers for your selfless acts of kindness...
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving this year and a blessed year there after...

Aunt Tammy

Jonathan was one of our first Thanksgiving soldiers, and his beloved and blessed family have kept in touch with me since that time.  I wrote about that Thanksgiving here.  What Tammy calls my "selfless act" is as far from the real truth as it can be!  Hubby and I look at it as one of the few things we can do for our men and women in our military, while they are putting their lives on the line for us.  Our families understand how important this event is for us, and we await the opportunity anxiously every year.  Last year, we spent it with four beautiful young women soldiers.  Only one has stayed in touch, and even promises to come visit.  It would be wonderful, but we'd understand if she doesn't.  The memories they gave us warm our hearts whenever we discuss this blessed day we call Thanksgiving.  It is our greatest joy and pleasure to serve a simple meal to young men and women who serve in our military.  If we could have a dozen, we'd love it.  We're hoping for four tomorrow.  I'll be writing about it soon.

We thank God for the privilege of living in this great nation, and we thank God for the men and women who volunteer to keep it the safe and free nation we enjoy and are utterly grateful to live in.
