Republicans Re-Growing Their Backbones?

Wouldn't that be an awesome development?  How about the AP asking some probing questions for a change?  Let's start with the probe into Sandy Burglar's theft of archive documents;

"Berger admitted last year that he deliberately took classified documents out of the National Archives in 2003 and destroyed some of them at his office. He pleaded guilty in federal court to one charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material and was fined $50,000.

Ten lawmakers led by House Armed Services Chairman Duncan Hunter, R- Calif., and Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., released a letter calling for the House Government Reform Committee to investigate.

They asked the committee to determine whether any documents were missing from Clinton administration terrorism records, to review security measures for classified documents and to seek testimony from Berger.

Hunter's spokesman, Joe Kasper, said the Justice Department had asked Congress to hold off on any oversight until the legal case concluded.

"It's important that the House conduct its own review to ensure there is a clear understanding of the facts, and sensitive and highly classified security information is not potentially compromised in the future," Kasper said. "

Why they didn't do this after the measley fine and pathetic apology the Burglar made is beyond me, but that they are finally doing it is terrific!  Like Rush, I'm more curious about what he put BACK, and beyond that, what was doctored?  After all, they're still looking for a legacy to materialize.

That the AP is asking a Donk, and Donk, let alone a leader probing questions, this close to the elections tells me the reporter's job may be in danger!  After all, Dirty Harry Reid is on their side, right?

"After getting local officials to rezone the property for a shopping center, Brown's company sold the land in 2004 to other developers and Reid took $1.1 million of the proceeds, nearly tripling the senator's investment. Reid reported it to Congress as a personal land sale.

The complex dealings allowed Reid to transfer ownership, legal liability and some tax consequences to Brown's company without public knowledge, but still collect a seven-figure payoff nearly three years later.

Reid hung up the phone when questioned about the deal during an AP interview last week. "

If Reid were a Republican, this would be the lead headline on tonight's network news programs.  If they mention it all, I'd be surprised.  It's not just that he did the dirty deed, it's that he did not report it;

"Senate ethics rules require lawmakers to disclose on their annual ethics report all transactions involving investment properties _ regardless of profit or loss _ and to report any ownership stake in companies.

Kent Cooper, who oversaw government disclosure reports for federal candidates for two decades in the Federal Election Commission, said Reid's failure to report the 2001 sale and his ties to Brown's company violated Senate rules.

"This is very, very clear," Cooper said. "Whether you make a profit or a loss you've got to put that transaction down so the public, voters, can see exactly what kind of money is moving to or from a member of Congress."

"It is especially disconcerting when you have a member of the leadership, of either party, not putting in the effort to make sure this is a complete and accurate report," said Cooper. "That says something to other members. It says something to the Ethics Committee."

Go get him, Ethics Committee!  Talk about "culture of corruption".

As we come closer to election day, the headlines continue to scream that the GOP is going to lose control of the House, and very possibly the Senate, stories like this tell me Donks are not so sure.  When the Democrat candidates try to out-conservative their conservative opponents, they cannot possibly believe their "message" is getting across;

"While his opponent, Republican Bob Corker, charges in radio ads that Ford was "Tennessee's most liberal congressman" in his 10 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, Ford plays conservative themes.

"I'm the only one in this race who has voted for a strong anti-illegal-immigration bill. I'm the only one in this race who has actually cut a tax," Ford said during a campaign stop in this largely white town just west of the Tennessee river. "

The fallacy with Donks who masquerade as conservatives is their firm belief that Americans are stoooopid, and will take them at their word.  Mr. Ford, your voting record is a matter of public record, and there is a NEW media who will be posting that record very soon, if they haven't already!

ARRRRGGHHH!  I'm so focused on the war and upcoming election, I forgot about the Fair Tax Blogburst!  Oh well, I went in search of a Tennessee blogger linked at GOP Bloggers in hopes that one would have addressed Ford's claims, and found a fountain of logical thinking at Right Truth.  I could not have done better than this;

"With the FairTax, the tax is collected when the money is spent, from everyone, with greatly reduced opportunities for non-compliance by the public.

For instance, what about the criminal element in our country? Have you ever heard of the Mafia? Or the drug dealer? Do you think that these people report 100% of their income? Of course not! They get out of paying a huge percentage of their actual tax bill by the simple expedient of not reporting all of their income. But these same individuals still have to pay utility bills, purchase prescription drugs, visit doctors, and buy food. And if they believe in the "high life" of new cars, fancy clothes and jewelry, and new homes, they're going to pay more than "Joe Six-pack" who chooses to drive a used car, or purchase a home that's not brand new."

Since tomorrow is a travel day, I tried to pack as much as I could into today.  I'll be checking in tomorrow night from Las Vegas!  Yeah, baby!  (choke, gag)  Anything for this pal's wedding (go to 8/19 of that archive)!  See y'all soon....and I'll be getting Dirty Harry stories first hand!

    Totally agree with you...the media is certianly biased, and they continue to deny that they are (unless your Ted Turner). Just wrote about Harold Ford and the Tennessee races....so typical of the media - paint a warm, loving, Bill Clinton picture and then bite the people back in the end.
