No More Jihadist. No More Mujahdeen. No More Caliphate

Friend of Dagney's Rant, Mike H., used a word in a recent e-mail.  {Thank you, Mike for the heads up!}  When I could not find a reference in Wikipedia, he sent me this; ...from  "Choosing Words Carefully: Language to Help Fight Islamic Terrorism." we have some new words to add to our vocabulary,

"A case in point is the term "jihadist." Many leaders use the term jihadist or jihadi as a synonym for Islamic extremist. Jihad has been commonly adapted in English as meaning "holy war." But to Muslims it means much more. In their article, Steusand and Tunnell said in Arabic - the language of the Koran - jihad "literally means striving and generally occurs as part of the expression 'jihad fi sabil illah,' striving in the path of God."

Those who behead innocents, cut open dead babies' bodies to fill them with explosives to hand them back to their parents, have not even a passing acquaintance with our Loving Lord God, Creator of Heaven and Earth.  So what do we call these minions of Satan that will let them know we do not believe they are "striving in the path of God"?  How do we let them know their acts of war are abhorrent to all God loving humans of every kind?

"The men asked Muslim scholars what the correct term for Islamic extremists would be and they came up with "hirabah." This word specifically refers to those engaged in sinful warfare, warfare contrary to Islamic law. "We should describe the Islamic totalitarian movement as the global hirabah, not the global jihad," they wrote.

As for the most despicable, blackest and most evil name they can be called?

"The correct term for these killers is "mufsidun," Streusand and Tunnell say. This refers to an evil or corrupt person. "There is no moral ambiguity and the specific denotation of corruption carries enormous weight in most of the Islamic world," they wrote.

People can apply other words instead. "Fitna/fattan: fitna literally means temptation or trial, but has come to refer to discord and strife among Muslims; a fattan is a tempter or subversive," they wrote. "Applying these terms to our enemies and their works condemns their current activities as divisive and harmful."

No more of that "righteous fighter" stuff, no more allowing these evil doers to sound justified for their terror, from now on, at Dagney's Rant,  I will call them out for what they are; mufsidun fighting a hirabah!  A caliphate is NOT what they want, they want totalitarianistic license to force the rest of us to let them live in luxury, while they take every thing we have, including our rights!  [Thank you, Omar, for assuring me the translations are accurate!]

You're welcome Dagney. On a side note you're the first one to inquire about the translation of hirabah since I've been trying to use it in all my comments. I'll just keep on keepin' on. Good night.

    Dagney...

LTC (now full colonel I'm sure) Tunnell is an acquaintance and classmate of mine from Harvard on the Hudson aka West Point. Smart, tough and capable guy! I need to start adopting the correct terms for these meglomaniacal @ssh@ts myself.

My proximity to the military brought me in contact with Harry's paper months ago. I should have shared it with my blog pals. For this I'm sorry...but glad you came across it in any case.

See you on the high ground!

Where is Al Antar when you need him?

Here's something he might be able to comment on and provide some insight...as I suspect him to be able to ferret out the truth presented in the paper referenced.

See you on the high ground!

Major, I e-mailed Omar at ITM before I wrote this post...sorry, but I don't always have the greatest faith in DoD-types. Omar verified the accuracy of the article, which he'd read several months earlier. He is probably still waiting for us to begin to use the terms in America's media.

al Antar has not visited since I disallowed his last baiting post.  I've not missed him, but I'd welcome him back without his ridiculous dissemination of teensy details!
