Mouth Opens, Foot Is Inserted...I Hope Gore Runs Again!

This story is an almost infallible in predicting AlGore's intention to run again for the Oval Office.  Anytime someone starts saying things like "get rid of payroll taxes", she/he's planning to run for president.  The problem with this story is the same problem with most of Gore's bright ideas; he opens his mouth without putting any time thinking about what or how to frame the subject.  For instance, his latest "great idea";

"

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore on Monday suggested taxing carbon dioxide emissions instead of employees' pay in a bid to stem global warming.

"Penalizing pollution instead of penalizing employment will work to reduce that pollution," Gore said in a speech at New York University School of Law.

The pollution tax would replace all payroll taxes, including those for Social Security and unemployment compensation, Gore said. He said the overall level of taxation, would remain the same.

"Instead of discouraging businesses from hiring more employees it would discourage business from producing more pollution," Gore said."

Mr. Gore, is this going to be a tax on the cars we drive?  Sounds like it.  Apparently you have not considered that the real carbon dioxide suppliers are old cars, driven by poor people.  You want to tax the poor people who are not paying ANY taxes now?  After all, the rich folks can afford to go out and buy the latest vehicle with hardly any carbon dioxide emissions.

Yes, I know he meant to tax the evil corporations who, according to him, produce pollution, but he'll be hard pressed to explain to his constituents why their jobs went away.

I really hope he decides to run!  This could be fun!
