Who Is In Control? (See update below)
I lived for many years in a region whose history far outstripped our own American history. The Anasazi who lived in Mesa Verde bely Algore's assertion that man is responsible for climate changes. All one has to do is to study the history of this amazing nation whose population was far greater in 1000 A.D. than currently dwells in the Dolores River basin.
"About 1200 there was another major population shift. The people began to move back into the cliff alcoves that had sheltered their ancestors long centuries before. Perhaps it was for defense; perhaps the alcoves offered better protection from the elements; perhaps there were religious or psychological reasons. Whatever the reason or combination of reasons, it gave rise to the cliff dwellers for which Mesa Verde is most famous.
Experts will tell you the reason the Anasazi moved back into the caves was due to climate changes during that time period. I remember seeing a sculpture of an Anasazi leader outside of a center dedicated to researching their history (if I could remember which one, I'd link it) and asking the director why he was shown with an exotic parrot on his shoulder. Keep in mind that area is now considered "high desert". He told me that they'd found evidence of parrots having been used in bartering, and that the area then was "TROPICAL"!
Excuse me, Algore, but can you tell me what these people did to turn the climate in the area of the four corners from tropical into high desert?
UPDATE: Jay Leno makes my point for me, from another arena: "With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks;
"Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

Don't you understand? Doing all that bartering, the people trampled all the grass! Damn capitalists!
