One Of Those Days
Apparently the trusty Street Pilot needs to be upgraded to reflect all of the gawd-awful road construction in Corpus Christi! After being told "re-calculating" a dozen times, running a red light (I was not driving!), being stopped by the police and given a stern warning, we decided we'd just head for the Ranch and stop at whatever we found on the way. Do you know how few and far between restaurants are, west of Corpus? Then when we finally reached the ranch, we're told it would be a 2 hour wait for the next tour bus, and no, they no longer have the self-guided tours...which is what all of our pals told us to expect. Yep, it was definitely one of those days!
Yes, during all of this, we were tuned to Rush. I've admitted a number of times that I am a dittohead. He addressed, as did all of the local shows, the news, and any other outlet professing to report the news this story. We knew that the left and its willing accomplices in the media would try to use the tactics that worked to get us out of Viet Nam, to get us out of Iraq, regardless of the truth, the outcome when we leave, etc. After all, it's the anti-Bush thing to do. This headline is another tactic.
"U.S. Troops Kill Pregnant Woman in Iraq"
Yet when you read the story....
"...the troops shot at a car that failed to stop at an observation post in a city north of Baghdad, Iraqi officials and relatives said Wednesday. "
I heard a caller on a local show in Corpus this morning fall into the "Marines probably just lost it" category. He'd been in Viet Nam, and was still suffering guilt from calling in napalm in Nam. The one thing he, nor Murtha, nor any left leaning media pundit have taken into account is that we learned lessons from Viet Nam, and our ALL VOLUNTEER military has been trained accordingly...and very differently from the training my contemporaries received in the 60's. Can we all please just shut up the dooms day and nay sayers around us, and wait until we all know all the facts? Please?

Regarding the GPS crutch...I suppose I could say "I told you so" but that would be dirty pool now wouldn't it?
As to the issue of alleged atrocities...while I was out enjoying my last day of freedom before heading back to the grind tomorrow, I was listening to Sean Hannity talking to a caller about the alleged issue with the "Marine Massacre" that's been on the front pages as of late. The poor caller just didn't want to cut our troops any slack at all in spite of all the evidence, data and investigations in.
I'll be blogging about this later, but just as a teaser...how about we decide, as a nation, to get behind our president and the troops in the field? I am so tired of hearing about how dim-witted they are, how terroristic in nature they are, and just how down right nasty they are. I used to be one of "them" and I couldn't be prouder of the folks I served with and those that are serving now.
War is a come as you are party...and bad things happen. For something to be considered an atrocity, I do believe there has to be malice involved.
Now, I'm willing to say that when you have 130,000 troops on the ground, not each and every one of them is going to be a Boy/Girl scout about things. Yes, the military was the fork some of these folks chose...welfare and/or prison the other. Is it possible? Of course it is! But for me to condemn a unit, the troops and the chain of command leading them, I'll wait for all the investigations to be done. If a court martial's in order then by all means, take 'em to court.
However, it's time that we take these people to task that want to paint our leaders and soldiers with the blackest brush possible before all the evidence is in. Isn't this what they want to do for William Jefferson, Democrat-Louisiana? (But seem to forget about evidence when it comes to Tom Delay, Republican-Texas?)
I tell you what...maybe I'm just having a bad day, but I've had enough of this nonsense. If we're going to take some of the alleged guilty bastards to the woodshed, let's start taking them all there. The problem is that pesky "innocent until proven guilty" catch phrase...oh that's right, only if you're not a Republican/Conservative/Evangelical Christian/non-Leftie.
See you on the high ground!

I'll just say this: the ones who know are not talking, the ones who know nothing are.
That's it in a nutshell. Ignore them while we present the rightful process: investigate. Is there cause for a Article 32 after the hearing? Then so be it.
Never condone the action, but wait until we know the true action! Gawd! That is what has me so worked up. I have tried to write about it, but I get angry all over again.
I know, I know. I said ignore them. It isn't that easy...
